This is a poem I wrote, modelled after the original famous poem ‘Where I’m From’ poem by George Ella Lyon.š
I am from books,
from Harry Potter, and magic.
I am from the silent, late nights
spent reading quietly with my dad.
I am from the crayons and coloring pens,
the mandala designs you could get lost in.
From skincare routines and soft loose clothing,
from rot-days in bed and Netflix binges.
I am from have-beens and will-dos and never-wills,
from procrastinators and agitators and oppressed.
From the misogynists and narcissists.
I am from the faith kept in heart.
The prayers prayed in silence; waiting, hoping.
Iām from Magpies and Minimalists, from laddus and lassis.
From hugs from my mom curing bone-deep fatigue,
the cuddles with Susi and Montu bringing sweet sleep.
I am from the empty walls but filled cupboards,
journals heavy with snapshots of my life.
All broken, all incoherent- reflecting my state of mind.
